Are you waiting too long for an appointment to Out Patients?

GP Referral is a solution to refer patients to GPs with Special Interests who can perform a procedure in the community setting of a GP Practice. Out Patient referrals for a first appointment or for a procedure can take many months. Patients can be managed faster in the community setting by a Special Interest GP. This system allows you to search for GPs in your region who are happy to receive requests for referrals from patients and GPs and who can see and treat you in a short time frame.

Who can request a referral?

GPs can register on gpreferral.ie, search the GP Special Interest list and request referrals for procedures including community surgery, biopsy, joint injections, mirenas and more with GPs with special interests who are trained and experienced in managing such patients. Referral requests made by local colleagues result in patients receiving a prompt appointment for their patient from a GP who is trained, experienced and accredited to deliver that specialist care.

Patients can now directly request a referral from a Special Interest GP by registering on gpreferral.ie. Patients can then search for a procedure or a GP within a preferred region and request a call-back from the GP to arrange an appointment. This simple system puts the control of your health back into your hands, allowing you to choose the time and place of your procedure.

This system does not allow patients to request a referral for a routine appointment, which must be made with your own GP. This system is not a means of accessing a new GP.

Who are the GPs providing this service?

Participants on the GP Referral System include members of the Primary Care Surgical Association (PCSA), Primary Care Dermatology Society of Ireland (PCDSI), Irish Association of Dermatologists (IAD), Family Planning Association of Ireland (FPAI) and many others. These GPs are family practitioners working in the community who are also trained in particular specialties such as dermatology, family planning, pain management and minor surgery.
